My Bike and Me - In Real Life

I’m going to #fitbloggin and I consider this to be a continuation of life’s latest ironies. After all, I’m not really fit and I’m not really a blogger. So I giggle, and I’m struck, once again, how the ironies pile up.

I don’t cook, yet most people come to my non-blog searching for a recipe. I ended up in the hospital due to chronic dehydration, but people ask me about being healthy. I’m growing herbs, but I don’t know what to do with them. I don’t know how to ride a bike, but I just bought one. You get the idea, right?

So why am I going to #fitbloggin? The people! I’ve been so blessed, loved and supported by this unexpectedly fabulous online community.

I. LOVE. MY. TRIBE.

And I am so looking forward to meeting them in person! I have a funny suspicion that it will be like we’ve all been friends forever – yes – the irony continues…

So here’s just a tip of the iceberg of my I’m-So-Giddy-I-Get-To-Meet-These-Tweeps list!

Lisa Johnson :: @lisajohnson :: She’s the very first fitness person I met online and the first blog I subscribed to – I love her warmth, wisdom, honesty, and attention to body, mind AND soul.

Susan Ito :: @foodiemcbody :: Well, let me just say I adore her! I love her humanness – I love her enthusiasm – I love her taste in music *winks* – I love her tears –  and I gobble up every word that she writes. She takes me with her every time….

Deb Roby :: @debroby :: Deb is amazing! She is absolutely a trusted source for REAL information about exercise and movement. And, she’s amazing in the kitchen, so she’s a perfect go-to with all sorts of tips and tricks.

Karen Anderson :: @kclanderson :: Lovely Karen shares her inner journey which deeply engages her heart and soul on her path to self-acceptance and confidence. Beautiful. Simply beautiful.

Katie Heddleston :: @KatieHeddleston :: Ms. Katie humors me with smart and kind support in the kitchen – she answers all my questions and is quite patient, even though I’m quite hopeless with a knife and a mixer.

Carla Birnberg :: @mizfitonline :: What can I say? She’s uber cool and doesn’t even know it. She celebrates imperfection. She giggles often. And I think she might cuss every once in a while **I hope that’s not a secret**.

This certainly isn’t everyone – there’s @yumyucky, @leavingfatville, @tryn2bfit, @melgetsfit, @middleagedjock, @tjsteskitchen – I am so excited to meet you all and I wish I had time to list everyone! But for now… I have to pack (I only decided to come yesterday, so I’m a BIT behind)!

Please find me at #fitbloggin! I have wildly curly hair and very smart glasses 😉

So what are you looking forward to this weekend?

That is so why I wish I could go – the community – meeting IRL life. Next year, I hope. This weekend my son graduates high school and I am looking forward to it being over:) Hope you have a great time! Please post about it so I can live vicariously through you.

    • Kris O'Connor @Krazy_Kris May 18, 2011 at 6:38 am #

Yes Karen – next year! Real people – real life – as my BF says, “This twitter thing can become real.” Ha! Enjoy the weekend!

  6. Cherry Woodburn May 18, 2011 at 7:19 am #

Sounds like all of you will have much fun and laughter. Lucky all of you.

Kris – your picture beside (I noticed it wasn’t “on”) your new bike was impressive to me. YOu look fit. Is this a can’t judge a book by its cover situation or are you in denial and really fit? Enjoy you weekend.

    • Kris O'Connor @Krazy_Kris May 18, 2011 at 3:14 pm #

Cherry – I’m a wanna be fit person – mostly a scardie cat who’s not fond of being uncomfortable – but I trick myself and I hope that eventually I will be! And yes… I’m not on the bike… To see that you must look at the embarrassing video 😉

I’m so happy for you!! I so wish i was going so as to meet you and all the other incredible people that I’ve been lucky enough to connect with! It’s all about the tribe!

  8. Yum Yucky May 18, 2011 at 3:15 pm #

Gah! so many awesome peeps I think my head is gonna pop off! Where’s my suitcase!? I didn’t even pack yet!!! (and I hope there will be wine…somewhere)

    • Kris O'Connor @Krazy_Kris May 18, 2011 at 3:59 pm #

I just packed up the wine – I’ll be schlepping it through the airport – I hope I’m strong enough – ha!

  9. Suzanne @WorkoutNirvana May 20, 2011 at 9:02 am #

I was awed by your last-minute decision to go and why? An event like this is MEANT for people like you, people who so readily connect with others and make them feel at ease. I wish I could go, but am totally motivated and pumped to go next year!!!! Wooo!!!

    • Kris O'Connor @Krazy_Kris May 24, 2011 at 6:16 am #

Awe? Awwwwww…. Yes, you should totally go – you would love the people and the panels – they were so interesting. And the swag was incredible. I gotta say I really MISSED you and was stoked when I saw you on the chat stream 😉

  1. Lessons Learned and Unexpected Treats at #Fitbloggin « The Heart & Humor of Being Human - May 25, 2011

[…] I decided on Monday and flew out on Wednesday to attend #Fitbloggin – so I didn’t have much time to prepare or fret. I really had no idea what to expect, but I knew I wanted to meet my tweeps in real life. The people were definitely the best part, but the Intuitive Eating panel, Attune Foods panel, and Friday Night Shows were unexpected treats for me. I walked away with  loads of new friends, stronger connections with existing buddies, cool tips and products, great information, and lots of questions (i.e., Who Am I?) – ha! Overall, I HIGHLY recommend this conference – it was uber fun, super inspiring, and filled with #soulmedicine. And yes – the irony of ME going to #fitbloggin is pretty darn funny.   […]
